Does your dog act funny a few hours after eating? Do you often catch your pup biting fur, or scratching its ear or a spot in its body? Dogs don’t express these irritation feelings intentionally, they do this when they are helplessly restless. If you find your dog in this state, don’t just look away, help the dog out. In this study, we will be considering certain allergic reactions in dogs, allergens, and possible remedial measures.
The act of scratching or itching is an indication that there is a meal in their system their body does not agree with. This can happen to any dog at any age, it doesn’t matter whether or not they’ve eaten the same meal for months.
It is one thing to notice that your pup is exhibiting some dog allergy symptoms, but it is another thing to know the exact food it is allergic to. For assimilation purposes, I’d like to take this lesson one step at a time.
Now, let’s look at how allergy symptoms can be identified in dogs.
Dogs with food allergies suffer from either of the following; itchy skin, tummy trouble, hives, chronic ear or paw infection, swollen face, etc. If you notice any of these defects in your dog’s body, please don’t hesitate to get help, and if you are short of ideas, I suggest you take the dog to a vet clinic for proper diagnosis and treatment.
In case you are unsure which part of the body to locate these defects, the ears, rear, stomach or paws are the most common places to look, you should be able to find redness, scratches or itchy marks in these areas. Although, skin irritation/ itchy skin can happen in other parts of their body, so, you must run a thorough check on the body of the puppy to know what action to take next.
A dog with an allergy will most likely scratch at a part of her body after being in contact with the food, in this regard, you might not need to look for long before identifying this problem, because the dog will expose the problem by naturally scratching a part of its body.
Chances are, some itchy red bumps might show up on her body –they are called hives.
They usually manifest within 7 to 24 hours after the allergen has entered the dog’s system. For less hairy dogs, this is easily noticeable, but for the hairy ones, you will have to touch their body and feel their skin to see the bumps.
Allergies can make the dog’s eyelids, earflaps or lips to get swollen, and this is unhealthy for the dog and can make the dog sick. This sickness can come in the form of diarrhoea, vomit, the release of gas, etc.
This repeated attitude of biting and scratching can open up the puppy’s skin, and once the skin is open, the dog will become prone to infection, putting the dog at a higher risk. This is why dog owners must stay sensitive and responsive to any dog allergy behavior.
Take your dog to a vet doctor when you notice the first scratch, this will help avoid more health issues. Again, most dogs become bald at some part of their body after these allergy experiences, which will adversely affect the good look of the dog, making her unappealing and scary, especially to children.
Let’s take a quick look at these allergens; I’ve listed out certain allergy-friendly foods that should help you fish out the food your dog is eating that might be responsible for the illness.
Although, they are other stimulators, like corn, oats, wheat, barley, and rice, these group causes allergy feelings as well, but they are lesser allergens.
If your dog is unable to breathe freely, please contact an emergency animal hospital ASAP. It is not that easy to fish out the culprit/allergen on time, it might take you days of continuous monitoring to discover the exact meal responsible for your dog’s ill-health.
This is not something you can do on your own; you require the help of an experienced nutritionist or vet to get this sorted out. If your dog already carries itches or bumps in its body, the vet may recommend a medicated skin cream for the dog that should help minimize the allergy effect temporarily, while they proceed to other treatments.
The hypoallergenic dog food is what helps the dog to lose those irritation feelings.
